"It's been a month already. The mission was only supposed to drag a week!" Yuki slammed her fist on the Hokage's desk. "Tell me where she is!"
The blonde sighed. "I told you Yuki. There's been no news from the Anbu. They were last seen near Amekagure-"
"But that was last week!! I need to know-"
"Yuki. It's okay. Handuro's a strong willed person. She'll make it. You and I both know that."
"I suppose you're right. But I want to be updated on the mission as soon as possible."
"Yes. Alright Yuki. I'll make sure to do that."
Yuki sighed and began to walk out the door.
"Yuki." The blonde male spoke again. "Please remain still. She'll be fine.....She always is.."
Without turning back to look at him, she took in a breath to steady herself and nodded. "Thank you for the reassurance... Goodbye Naruto.." with that, she left, not minding any strange or concerned looks spared her way.
Naruto sighed and sat down, massaging his temples. Yuki was about to do something stupid, he knew that, but wasn't going to stop her, Yuki just needed space at the moment.
"That little bitch!" Yuki stormed into her apartment complex, banging her fist against the wall and knocking over a few pictures. "She can't send a letter? Or even one of her godamn ninja dogs?!" She groaned and leaned down to pick them up, stacking each one over the other and setting them down. on her coffee table. "Baka Uzumaki..." she sighed and sat down, staring at the picture that remain atop the stack. Slowly she reached out and grabbed the picture, looking it over.
"Yuki! Stop, you're gonna stain my kimono!" Handuro yelled at Yuki and she began to throw pie at everyone.
"You're always complaining to me about being to stuck up. Now look at who it is!" Yuki teased and smirked playfully.
"I don't want to go home and have to wa-" a small gasp left her lips and Yuki purposely smothered the cherry pie onto her white and gold Kimono. "Oh. It's war now!" Yuki simply stuck out her tongue and grabbed another pie, as did Handuro.
Things did not end clean, pie bits and cherries where everywhere, both girls completely covered in the bread and jelly, but everything was on a good note.
"Yuki..." Handuro would speak up as the both sat there, recovering from their laughing fit."It's not going to be like this tomorrow is it?.." she mumbled, making Yuki frown a bit and chuck some more pie at her.
"It's the night of the festival, you've been a kill joy all night, what's wrong with you?"
"You! You're what's wrong with me. It seems like it's only this one night a year that we get along and any other day is spent clawing at each other. I've always wanted to be your friend but there's this stupid rivalry-"
"Handuro. That's not it."
"It's because you're a baka." Yuki smiled and bit and pat her head. "Don't worry about tomorrow. Just enjoy the rest of your night." seconds later Naruto's cheerful laughter would be heard, followed by Sakura's lighthearted giggles.
"Woah what happened here?" Kakashi would ask, looking around but not really seeming as disappointed that they wasted all the pie than seeming happy that the two were getting along. Even the always scowling Tsuki chuckled and smiled, pulling out her camera and pointing it at the two, snapping a shot.
"Get cleaned up, I brought extra clothes for you two." Their sensei said, the two nodding and going to do just that.
After showering and changing the two went back outside, making it just in time for the fireworks. Things were kind of awkward between the two after Handuro's statement until Yuki finally spoke up. "Things aren't going to change tomorrow."
Handuro only continued to gaze up at the patterns that would appear in the sky.
"I mean it... We'll have that friendship you're always babbling on about." Still the younger female said nothing. "Handuro?" Yuki would turn her gaze and find her wiping a couple tears away from her eyes. "Ha-"
"I'm fine." She would reassure with a smile. "I'm just happy." she would say and Yuki would frown.
"Don't scare me like that." she whispered and reached up a hand to wipe away the tears still slowly trickling down her cheeks. Yuki would lean in merely an inch away from the other's lips. "Baka Uzumaki..." and with that she closed the distance between them..
That night was their first kiss, that night began their relationship....
Slowly the smile that hand formed on Yuki's lips began to fade away and she would set the picture back where she got it. She stood up and walked to her closet, till the very back where her Anbu uniform lay hidden and tucked away forever. "I'm taking matters into my own hands now.."
After running through miles of forests she finally stumbled upon Handuro's squad. Yuki's eyes widened.
They were all..... dead.
How could that even be? Handuro's squad always came highly recommended and were ranked in the top 5.
Yuki didn't have to walk far until she would notice another body lying completely motionless. It was that absurd mask that gave it away and she quickly ran to her side.
"Handuro?" she placed to fingers to the side of her neck and felt a faint pulse. "Just hang in there, We'll get you to a hospita-"
"It's no use." Handuro would whisper. "I feel the life slipping away from me too quickly.."
"Stop talking like that. You can't die. You won't die."Yuki said picking her up. Handuro rested her head on Yuki's chest, a small smile on her lips. "I'm sorry.... I can't make dinner tonight."
Yuki could feel something knot in her stomach, she knew there was no helping it and set her back down, sitting and leaned up againt the tree. Now that she took the time to examine her, she noticed all the deep wounds she had. Looking beyond that she noticed her chakra channels were completely torn, quite a few bones were broken...there really wasn't any use.. "Well... I'll cook tonight.. What would you want?" Yuki asked, sitting down beside her.
"I don't know." Handuro whispered, shrugging her shoulders a bit. "Tempura shrimp?..." she mumbled, lacing their fingers together.
"That's it?" Yuki would give Handuro's hand a little squeeze and feel the tears start burning in her own eyes.
"Rice dumplings too... I know you like them." Handuro's breathing began to slow down, and her grip on Yuki's hand loosened plenty.
"Okay. I'll make them."
"Oh and can I have something else?" Handuro asked, looking up at her with half lidded eyes.
"Sure." Yuki responded, her vision semi blurred with the tears she refused to let escaped.
"Kiss me?...." though surprised there was no objection and Yuki leaned in, meeting Handuro's lips in a tender loving kiss. Yuki would taste the blood from Handuro, mixing with the salty taste of the tears that finally began to drip down her cheek. Yuki would wrap her arms around the smaller female and holding her as close as possible. "Don't leave me." she would say, almost in a begging tone.
"I wouldn't dream of it... I'll always be here...I promise." Handuro smiled, closing her eyes and leaning her head against Yuki's shoulder, nuzzling into her neck. "I love you.. Yuki-Chan.."
"I love you too... my baka Uzumaki.." Yuki would reply. The slowly hot breath that she felt on the skin of her neck began to slow down, until eventually it completely stopped.
That night was their last kiss, and just like that, the greatest love... the greatest friend Yuki had ever known, disappeared from her life completely...
